Childcare Smarts
Hello! I am Catherine Pruissen, publisher of Childcare Smarts.
Thank you for the privilege of your visit.

So why did I publish Childcare Smarts – and more importantly – what’s in it for you?

Childcare Smarts provides a platform to share with you my passion for and knowledge of the childcare industry.  Why? Because quality childcare impacts everyone – parents, providers and most of all – our precious children.

For Parents – finding quality childcare is paramount.  Monitoring that care to ensure it remains high quality is ongoing.  Knowing what to do if your child does not flourish in care or you begin to notice things are not as they should be – is huge.  The resources you need are all here.

For Providers – Childcare Smarts is here to see you through your business startup and beyond.  Your success in providing quality care depends on the resources you use and the research you conduct.  I invite you to dive deep into our publications and articles.

More About Me & My Qualifications to Serve You

I’ve been invested in the childcare field since 1985 with an ever-present quest for learning and researching everything I can about it. This passion has resulted in:

  • Authoring over 22 books, including the newly revised Start and Run a Home Daycare, all of them on operating a childcare/daycare business and assisting parents looking for childcare
  • Owning and operating a successful home daycare for 8+ years
  • Founding a Child Care Information Centre in Calgary, Alberta
  • Writing numerous articles and op-eds for magazines and newspapers
  • Being interviewed on radio and television shows
  • Developing, coordinating, and facilitating recreation programs ages preschool through early teens, for the City of Windsor, the Town of Kingsville, and the YMCA Windsor

By far my most cherished role is being the proud mother of two and grandmother of eight awesome grandchildren.  My eldest granddaughter has assisted me with the management of Childcare Smarts.

Finally, and equally as important, I am a firm believer in continuing education and enhancing my skills to provide the best programs for the children and families I serve, and to provide you with the best content-based books and articles.

My Mission With Childcare Smarts Is

To promote quality childcare through professional and highly researched publications and articles for parents and providers.

We do this by: educating and empowering parents and providers through products and articles that expand awareness of quality childcare and inspire our visitors to learn more about the care they receive or provide and how it directly affects the lives of all children.

As publisher of Childcare Smarts it is my goal: to play a significant role in creating a community in which quality childcare is the norm — services provided and received are monitored and designed to enhance the life of each child— and provide important information for parents and providers alike play who have an influential role in quality childcare.
